SAUSALITO AND MARIN CITY — November 5, 2026. Three seats on the governing board of the Sausalito–Marin City School District were on the November 3 ballot. The county results carried by KQED, last updated at 1:05 a.m. November 4, put Leshawn Holcomb first with 1,548 candidate selections (30.7%), Lauren J. Walters second with 1,343 (26.6%) and Alena Maunder third with 1,167 (23.1%). These are preliminary rankings, not certified election results.

Three school trustees, one shared district

The district serves communities on both sides of the Sausalito–Marin City boundary. Sausalito is an incorporated city; Marin City is an unincorporated community. School-board decisions, therefore, are not identical to decisions made by the Sausalito City Council or Marin City Community Services District. A trustee election has its own electorate and legal responsibilities, and the number of candidate selections need not equal the number of individuals who returned ballots.

How to interpret the candidate percentages

When three seats are at stake, voters may have the option of supporting multiple candidates. The reported 30.7%, 26.6% and 23.1% figures are shares of counted candidate selections, not percentages of all registered residents or total county turnout. The number of valid uncounted ballots within the school district is not established merely by looking at Marin’s countywide backlog.

What the board can decide

District trustees oversee educational policy, budget priorities, school facilities, contracts and the superintendent. Those decisions matter to parents and staff in both communities. The district’s board has a different legal role from county supervisors, mayors or state legislators; residents should use official board agendas and minutes to evaluate decisions, not infer policy positions solely from election results.

Other nearby results

California58 has separately reported Sausalito’s two-seat council election and the city’s Measure X zoning vote. Those totals should not be mixed with this school-board race. Readers may check the original county school election results and Marin County Elections for future releases.
