SAUSALITO, Marin County — October 31, 2026. Exceptionally high tides brought coastal flooding to parts of southern Marin during the final week of October. The City of Sausalito listed a King Tide Flooding Alert on October 29, following a series of high-tide impacts that affected access to low-lying shorefront roads and routes.
What happened this week?
National Weather Service information issued October 28 warned that unusually high water could flood low-lying areas and temporarily restrict access. Local reporting on October 27 documented flooded streets and cycling routes around Sausalito. These were real reported incidents; they do not mean the same roads remain closed indefinitely.
Before driving or cycling
Check Marin County’s Public Emergency Portal for changing road impacts. Follow the latest National Weather Service Bay Area forecasts and the city’s news page. Do not drive, ride or walk through floodwater, even where a familiar path appears shallow. Water can conceal displaced pavement, drainage openings and other hazards.
Why this is more than a single wet day
King tides are unusually high astronomical tides. When they coincide with weather-driven surge or heavy rain, flooding can become more severe. Low waterfront locations may be affected differently from hillside neighborhoods. A warning for Marin County should not be presented as a claim that every Sausalito household is flooded.
The city also published a separate winter preparedness notice October 28. Residents can use it to review storm readiness and check the city’s sandbag information; this report concerns the specific late-October high-tide risk.
