MARIN CITY / SAUSALITO AREA, Calif. — October 27, 2026. A striking image from the week’s coastal flooding shows a person paddling a kayak through roadway floodwater near Shoreline Highway and US 101 in Marin City. The footage was reported by CBS Bay Area on Monday, October 26—one day before renewed flooding and road restrictions in southern Marin.

Statewide October 27 context: Read California58’s original county-by-county report on flooding, kayak footage, King Tides, Highway 101 ramps and Pacific Coast Highway closures. The roundup distinguishes confirmed inundation from forecast advisories and explains why the Marin City and Huntington Beach kayak videos were filmed on different dates.

Cross-reference added October 27, 2026.

Where was the kayak?

The location was near the Shoreline Highway and Highway 101 interchange in Marin City, an unincorporated community immediately north of Sausalito. Video showed a person kayaking across a roadway inundated during the high tide. The footage does not establish that the person was paddling along US 101’s main highway lanes. Descriptions such as “kayaking on the 101 freeway October 27” would conflate the roadway and the dates.

Flooding continued Tuesday

On October 27, Mill Valley police reported additional closures on Miller Avenue and Redwood Highway Frontage Road, reopening certain streets after water receded later that afternoon. The CHP also logged flooding near the US 101 Lucky Drive off-ramp in Larkspur. These are separate, documented impacts of the same regional high-tide episode.

No independently verified closure inside Sausalito city limits is claimed in this report. This story is carried in Sausalito News because Marin City is a neighboring community with a direct travel connection to Sausalito.

Where to look for reliable updates

The Marin County emergency portal provides local closures and hazard guidance. NWS maintained a Coastal Flood Advisory until 5 p.m. Friday, October 30. Drivers should avoid all water-covered traffic routes, even if others are attempting to cross.
